Pets on Quilts 2016

Pets on Quilts 2016

Pets on Quilts is a fun way for quilters to share their photos and also be entered into a contest to win a prize. This event has been going on for several years.

The Pets on Quilts hostess, Lily Pad Quilting, has done a great job of coordinating this event and has rounded up several sponsors who have prizes to share.

I am excited to tell you that I am offering the following fat quarter bundle to a lucky winner in Pets on Quilts 2016. The fat quarters are all ones that I have hand screen printed.

Visit Lily Pad Quilting to read all about this event and to enter your photo (click here). Be sure to enter so you have a chance to win.

Handbags and Thermofax Screens

Since I haven't been able to get back to my screen printing project, I have been working on other things. Those things include a couple of handbags and some new Thermofax screen designs.

There are 12 new Thermofax screen designs now in my shop and most of them are ideal for printing repeating patterns. Thanks for stopping by and visiting.

Purrfectly Patterned

Last month I got one of those exciting emails....you know....the kind where you find out you are accepted into a juried show/event? This quilt, Purrfectly Patterned, was accepted to exhibit with "Patterns", the 2016 Dinner at Eight Artists exhibition, which will debut at the Houston International Quilt Festival this fall.

The quilt was made to a theme of "patterns" and it is 40" square. To read more about the Dinner at Eight Artists, please click here.

New Stencils

I designed some new 12" x 24" stencils for StencilGirl a few months ago and today they are now available. I love working with these larger stencils. They work so well with painting on large pieces of fabric. The following samples are painted on cotton duck fabric and can be used for any number of sewing projects.

When I paint on fabric that will be sewn into a pillow cover, tote bag, or whatever, I like to use textile paints as they have a softer hand when dry and that makes for an ideal sewing experience.

The following table runner was hemmed before I painted and then I used artist acrylic paints and finished off with a coat of water-based varnish to make a surface that is easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth if needed.

Pillow covers are always a fun and quick project and I share a tutorial on how to make one with a zipper closure. Click here for the Pillow Cover Tutorial.

You will find all these new stencils and all the ones I have designed in the past on the StencilGirl web site. Click here.

Newsletter Again

I recently decided to send out a newsletter. I had one in the past and it sort of fizzled out. So here I go again. All new newsletter list, all new information. I will be sending the first one out before the end of June, date not yet determined. But I'm working on it...yay!

If you would like to sign up to receive my newsletter, I welcome you to do so. You can follow this link to my website: http://terristegmiller.com/newsletter/, or there is a sign up area in the side bar of my blog.

I plan to send one out once a month and there will also be a fun little bonus for all who are currently subscribing. I plan to randomly draw a subscriber email from the list and post it in each newsletter. If the owner of that email contacts me they will be the lucky winner of a scrap pack of fabrics that I hand printed and/or hand dyed.

And just because I love to share photos here on the blog, following is a series of photos of a handbag I made last week. This bag is actually for me as I was desperately in need of a new bag.

Cute little story...As I was working on this bag it dawned on me that all the exterior fabrics are ones that I dyed and/or painted and printed. The only commercial fabric is a batik with dots that I used as the inside lining. I asked hubby what he thought of my new bag and his comment..."I like the dot fabric on the inside." (Insert eye roll here) Yes, that's a hubby for you. They really have no clue. I didn't tell him either.

Hand Stitching

I have always loved the look of hand quilting or hand stitching. The simple running stitch is my favorite and I feel like it has become more popular as I feel like I see it everywhere.

I thought I would take a piece of fabric I had dyed using a stencil and outline the shapes. The piece you see below was not quite finished at the time the photo was taken but I've since finished the hand stitching. It currently is waiting for me to finish it. It will become a pillow cover.

Here is another project I am currently working on and I'm again stitching with the running stitch. I love the silk scarves you see with the Kantha stitches running through the fabrics so I thought I'd try this out with some silk sari fabric I have in my stash.

And below are a couple of scenes from my garden. We have had some unusually hot weather the past couple of days. I must say this has been an extremely weird year for us, weather-wise. We had a very early spring and now we are getting weather that we should normally get later in the summer. My garden perennials are growing like they are on steroids. I have never seen everything look so lush and full of blooms.

Thank You

I would like to thank all of you who celebrated my blog anniversary with me last month. Many of you took advantage of the discount I offered in my Etsy shop and I appreciate that with all my heart. Here's to keeping up with blogging.

I do find blogging to be a bit more challenging these days, especially with fast and easy posting that one can do on Instagram and Facebook with a smartphone. I am writing this post with a new app on my phone and I hope it proves to be a useful tool.

So what have I been doing for the past month? Well I worked on some projects with deadlines. A couple of which I can't share here yet but sometime next month I can.

This art quilt was one I made and it is my donation to SAQA for their annual benefit auction held this fall.

I've been working in my garden a lot lately and enjoying the fresh fragrances around me.  Gardening and getting priority projects completed have kept me from doing my screen printing but I'm hoping to get back to that soon.

Happy June to you!
